NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that defenseman Nate Kiser has been assigned to the Stingrays by the Portland Pirates of the AHL. Kiser will be in the lineup for the Stingrays when they host the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Wednesday.

Kiser, a fifth round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, played in five games this season with the Pirates racking up 29 minutes in penalties. The Stingrays are in desperate need of help, especially at the blue line, due to a call up to Steve Spencer and an injury to Trevor Johnson and Aaron Power. Forwards Kevin Spiewak and Jeff Boulanger are also on the injured list.

"Nate is a player that we recruited hard this summer," noted Fitzsimmons. "He is a strong steady defenseman that plays with an edge. He is going to be a big help to us for as long as he stays at this level."

Kiser is a second year professional out of the OHL, where he played with the Plymouth Whalers. Last year, he had five goals and 10 assists with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL and played five games with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

A native of Southgate, Michigan, Kiser stands 6'-1" and weighs 207 lbs.

The Rays play the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Wednesday night before taking off on a four game road trip. Elvis impersonator Rick Alviti will perform after Wednesday's game.
