Pirates Pillage Twisters

April 10, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Peoria Rough Riders News Release

The Arkansas Twisters entered the Peoria Civic Center winless against the Pirates, and the Twisters left in the same boat they came in. Peoria held Twisters quarterback Kevin Williams in check most of the night, and a key touchdown was ruled a no catch that led to Arkansas losing 22-13.

Both offenses looked out of sink, and Arkansas never found the endzone again after Kevin Williams found Ted Alford for a short touchdown in the first quarter.

After falling 7-0 to Arkansas, Peoria kicker Louis Aguiar kicked a 52 yard field goal to pull the Pirates to 7-3 early in the second quarter. But Arkansas turned the ball over on a misdirection running play that Prince Williams fumbled that set up the first of two Peoria scores, and the Pirates led 15-10 at halftime.

But instead of Arkansas coming out with an offensive charge reminiscent of its first game, it was Peoria that opened the second half with points.

Mike Souza, who didn't start the season as starter, hit Xavier Patterson in stride for a 30 yard touchdown strike, and the Pirates went on to win 22-13.

Arkansas (1-1) takes on Birmingham at Alltel Arena next Saturday. Country music singer Tracy Byrd will perform a special pre-game concert. One ticket gets fans into both shows.
