Pirates name team captains

BRIDGEPORT, CT- The Portland Pirates announced today the team captains for the 2005-06 season. Head coach Kevin Dineen named veteran Aaron Gavey the captain of the team and Trevor Gillies, Tim Brent, Zenon Konopka and Geoff Peters the assistant captains. On the road, Gillies and Brent will handle the assistant captain's responsibilities; at home games Konopka and Peters will wear the "A" on their sweaters.

Gavey, 31, becomes the eighth team captain in the 13 year history of the Pirates franchise. Gavey is familiar with the role having previously served as the captain with the Minnesota Wild (NHL) and the St. John's Maple Leafs (AHL) during his 10 year professional career.

The Pirates return to action tonight in Bridgeport against the Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. The Pirates next home game is this Sunday against Lowell at 4:05 p.m. After the game, the Pirates will host their first "Skate with the Team" of the year.

Season tickets are still available for the 2005-06 season at the Pirates office, located at 531 Congress Street in Portland. Ticket plans start at just $50.
