Phantoms netminder weaves 44-save shutout in 1-0 win over Norfolk

Phantoms goaltender Jamie Storr was perfect in Norfolk Saturday night, withstanding 44 shots - 22 of them in the third period - and R.J. Umberger continued to take care of the team's offensive needs as Philadelphia beat the Admirals 1-0 to complete a weekend sweep on the Virginia shore.
The game was scoreless until the early stages of the third period. In the frame's first minute, winger Tony Voce forced a turnover behind the Admirals net and fed it in front to Umberger, who fired it past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford at the 49-second mark for the 1-0 lead.
From there, the Phantoms withstood a literal onslaught of offense from the Admirals. Philadelphia's penalty killing unit was vital in the win, stepping up to the plate after the Phantoms were called for three minors in the last seven minutes of the game. The close proximity of the penalties gave Norfolk more than four consecutive minutes of power play time, 90 seconds of which came in two separate 5-on-3 opportunities. Overall, the Admirals were 0-for-7 on the power play, while Philadelphia was 0-for-4. Norfolk outshot the Phantoms 44-22 on the night.
Storr picked up his second win in a Phantoms sweater, having also been between the pipes for Philadelphia's 3-2 win over Binghamton on Oct. 8. A veteran of 219 NHL games with Los Angeles and Carolina, Storr joined the Flyers organization as a free agent in August.
Umberger has registered a point in all five of the Phantoms games so far this season, although the game marked his first of the season without an assist. He was the difference in both games this weekend - in addition to his game-winner tonight, Umberger was the only successful shooter in the shootout on Friday, lifting the Phantoms to a 3-2 win.

The Phantoms now briefly return to Philadelphia before departing on Tuesday for a four-game swing through New England, which will cap a season long seven- game road trip. The first of those four games comes Wednesday night when the Phantoms visit the Lowell Lock Monsters for a 7:05 faceoff. The Phantoms next home game is Fri., Nov. 4 at 7:05 PM against the Hershey Bears. That night at the Wachovia Spectrum, banners will be raised to the rafters to celebrate the 2005 Eastern Conference and Calder Cup championships.
