Pirates make Ducks walk the plank

PORTLAND, Maine - Stephen Peat and Ivan Ciernik scored first-period goals to lift the Portland Pirates to a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Sunday in the American Hockey League

Trent Whitfield scored what proved to be the game-winner in the third period and Chris Corrinet chipped in with a pair of assists for the Pirates, who won their third straight game and improved to 6-2-3-0 in their last 11.

Dave Roche and Yuri Butsayev scored for the Ducks, who fell to 1-6-1-0 in their last eight. Cincinnati was held under three goals for the eighth time in 11 games this month.

Sebastien Charpentier finished with 32 saves for the Pirates to improve his record to 7-2-2 in his last 11 decisions.

Jason Elliott gave up two goals on three shots before being replaced by Ilja Bryzgalov five minutes into the opening period. Bryzgalov stopped 34-of-35 shots in 53:27 of action and picked up the loss. Cincinnati was denied on three power-play opportunities and has gone scoreless with the man-advantage in its last nine games (0-for-25).

The Ducks play the final game of a 10-game, 18-day road trip at 7:30 p.m. in Hamilton Wednesday.
