Pirates Announce Training Camp Schedule and Preseason Game

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, announced today their training camp schedule for the 2008-09 season. The Pirates will open training camp on Thursday, October 2nd at Portland Ice Arena at 9:40 a.m.

The Pirates will hold training camp sessions on a daily basis at Portland Ice Arena from 9:40 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The full training camp schedule is listed below. All sessions are free and open to the public.

The Pirates training camp roster includes, forwards Tyler Bouck (pending waivers), Jimmy Bonneau (pending waivers), Colton Fretter, Marc-Andre Gragnani, Derek Whitmore, Felix Schutz and Colin Murphy; defensemen Mike Card and Mike Kostka; and goaltender Jhonas Enroth. Forward Josh Vatri and defenseman Paul Baier will attend Portland's camp on a tryout basis.

The Pirates will play one preseason contest on Sunday, October 5th against the Albany River Rats (Carolina Hurricanes) at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg, Massachusetts at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the Pirates preseason game, the Worcester Sharks (San Jose Sharks) will host the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings) at 4:00 p.m.

Admission is free for the Portland Pirates game against the Albany River Rats at the Wallace Ice Center on the campus of Fitchburg State College. For more information, call the Wallace Civic Center at 888-64RINKS.

The Pirates open their 16th American Hockey League season on Saturday, October 11th against the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings) at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. Fans will receive magnetic schedules, plus USA Olympians and Maine natives, Kevin Eastler and Adam Craig will be at the game as part of the Opening Night festivities.
