Pirates Acquire Matt Lashoff from Bridgeport in Exchange for Dyson Stevenson

Saco, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced that they have acquired defenseman Matt Lashoff via trade from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In exchange the Pirates sent forward Dyson Stevenson to Bridgeport.

Lashoff, a 6-foot-2, 205 pound defenseman from East Greenbush, New York, played 11 games for Bridgeport this season, scoring one goal, and three assists for four points, along with 22 penalty minutes.

Prior to signing a one-year AHL contract with the Sound Tigers on January 12, the 28 year-old began the season in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, skating in 23 games for Metallurg Novokuznetsk, collecting two assists, two points, and 14 penalty minutes.

Selected in the 1st Round (22nd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins, Lashoff is in his ninth year as a pro. He has played a total of 74 NHL games with Boston, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring 1-15-16, while collecting 59 penalty minutes. His last time in the NHL was in 2010-11 with Toronto.

Lashoff has played in a total of 323 AHL games over his career with the Providence Bruins, Norfolk Admirals, Toronto Marlies, and Bridgeport. He has scored 43-113-156 over his AHL career.

He has also spent time with Zurich (2012-13) in the Swiss-A League, and with Leksends IF (2013-14) of the Swedish Hockey League.

Lashoff will join the Pirates in time for their game this Friday against the Syracuse Crunch at the Onondaga County War Memorial.

Stevenson, a 6-foot, 185 pound right wing from Shaunovon, Saskatchewan, joined the Pirates after signing a one-year, two-way AHL/ECHL contract on April 24, 2014. Most of his time this season has been spent with the Pirates' ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators. In Gwinnett, Stevenson played 46 games, notching 8-8-16 while amassing 104 penalty minutes.

He played in two games for Portland this season, on December 13 at Providence and December 20 at home against Worcester. He did not register a point and picked up two penalty minutes.

Stevenson made his pro debut at the end of the 2012-13 season when he played four games for the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors on an amateur tryout. He collected 12 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro this season, Stevenson played four seasons with the Regina Pats of the WHL, scoring 75-93-168 with 420 penalty minutes in 252 regular season games.

Stevenson will join the Sound Tigers in time for their next game this Friday night on the road against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center.

The Pirates play three games in three straight days on the road this weekend, facing the Syracuse Crunch from the Onondaga County War Memorial Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Portland then moves on Allentown, Pennsylvania, making their inaugural visit to the PPL Center to face the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The trip concludes at the Giant Center on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. when the Pirates will face the Hershey Bears.
