 Yakima Valley Pippins

Pippins Sign Two

March 25, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

The Yakima Valley Pippins have added two pitchers out of the Big West Conference to the inaugural roster, signing Gabe Gentner and Kenny Rosenberg for the upcoming season. Head Coach Marcus McKimmy expects both players to bolster an already-strong pitching staff.

Gentner, a right-handed pitcher, joins Vince Fernandez as the second UC-Riverside player to join the Pippins roster. The Eastvale, Calif. native is currently completing his freshman season with the Highlanders. At Roosevelt High School Genter shined as a two-way player. In 227 career plate appearances he hit .275 with 26 RBI's and scored 22 times. From the hill he boasted a career 3.50 ERA in 93 innings. As a senior he pitched 51 innings and struck out 48 batters. He was also named as a "Player to Watch in High School Baseball" by the Los Angeles Times.

"Gabe is a highly talented freshman RHP who continues to make huge improvements in his time at UC-Riverside," McKimmy said. "We have a great deal of confidence using him in short or long relief throughout the summer. He has had some early success this spring, but expect that on a much larger scale entering the summer in Yakima."

Rosenberg comes to Yakima from Cal-State Northridge, where he is finishing his freshman season for the Matadors. The left-handed pitcher is a former all-conference selection at Tamalpais High School, where he averaged more than 1.5 strikeouts per inning in his senior year. Rosenberg also held down the net for the men's soccer team at Tamalpais High School where as a senior was named the All-League goalkeeper.

"Kenny has a chance to be very special this summer as he comes very highly regarded as a freshman for Cal-State Northridge," McKimmy said. "He is mid to upper 80's with his Fastball, but has a swing and miss curveball that will translate very well to wood bats. The thing I like most about him is that he is a very high character kid who also throws left handed. He will be a great Pippin."

The Yakima Valley Pippins will begin their quest for a WCL Championship at Yakima County Stadium on June 6th, 2014 at 7:05 P.M. against East Division rival Wenatchee. Tickets are now on sale for the 2014 season, including full-season and partial-season packages, as well as select team merchandise. Those interested in being part of something great from the start are asked to contact Noel Zanchelli at 206.271.7820 or by email at noel@pippinsbaseball.com.

You can reach the Pippins offices at 509-575-HITS (4487). The team store, stadium improvements and other fan-friendly amenity projects will begin in early spring 2014.
