YAKIMA, WA - Five players posted multiple hits as the Yakima Valley Pippins snapped a three-game losing streak, winning 6-1 over the Gresham GreyWolves at Yakima County Stadium.
Alex O'Rourke (Oregon State) gave the Pippins an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning with one of his season-high three hits on the night, an RBI double scoring Trevor Achenbach (Oklahoma Wesleyan), who also finished with three hits, resulting in the Pippins 10th win of the season.
Zach Draper (College of Idaho) earned his second win of the season pitching seven innings of one run ball on six hits. Trent Schulte (Gonzaga) and Drake Atlee (Cal State Northridge) combined to pitch the final two innings of relief.
Leading 2-1 entering the bottom of the 5th inning, the Pippins responded with four runs.
Jay Schuyler (San Diego) led off the frame with a triple followed by an RBI double from Achenbach. The Pippins would make it 4-1 when Ryan Garcia (UCLA) delivered an RBI single, scoring on leadoff hitter Branson Trube's (Gonzaga) second double of the night, taking a commanding 6-1 lead.
The Pippins return to action Tuesday night in Bellingham, Wa. to face the Bellingham Bells in a three-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. RHP Gavin Velasquez (Cal State Fullerton) will start on the mound as the Pippins starting pitchers have now logged 13 quality starts in 15 games this season.
