Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
WALLA WALLA, WA - The Yakima Valley Pippins fell in walk-off fashion, 3-2, as Willie McIver delivered the game winning home run Friday night at Borleske Stadium.
Thomas Triantos (Cal Poly Slo) took the loss after surrendering the walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning, throwing 3.1 innings of relief allowing zero hits before that point, striking out three. Cameron Haskell (UC Riverside) helped force the game into extras with a 2-out RBI double, tying the score in the 7th inning.
The Yakima Valley Pippins (14-11) would score the first run of the night on an RBI single from Chris Ceballos (Cal State Fullerton), his team-leading 13th RBI of the season, plating Christian Koss (UC Irvine), who led off the frame with a double into the left field corner.
Jordan Bocko (UC Irvine) pitched three innings in the start, allowing no runs on two hits, giving way to Andrew Bernstein (Cal Poly) out of the bullpen for the next 3.2 innings of work. Bernstein surrendered a solo homerun in the 5th inning, giving the Walla Walla Sweets a 2-1 lead.
Jace VanDeBrake (Gonzaga) doubled in the 6th inning and the Pippins threatened with runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out but were unable to score a decisive run in the frame. During extra innings, the Pippins were unable to muster any hits, failing to draw a walk in Friday night's loss.
The Pippins and Sweets return for the rubber match of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. as Gavin Velasquez (Cal State Fullerton) will start on the mound for the Pippins. Fans can listen to all the action live on 1460 ESPN Yakima, the official home for Yakima Valley Pippins Baseball.
