GreyWolves Allow Just Two Hits But Fall in Series Finale against Kitsap

BREMERTON, WA. - On most nights, a two-hit outing from a pitching staff would typically ensure a victory. Unfortunately for the Gresham GreyWolves, Friday was not one of those nights.
Taking advantage of a timely double that followed a hit by pitch, the Kitsap BlueJackets eked out a 1-0 win in 10 innings against Gresham (10-14) on Friday despite being overwhelmed offensively for the duration of the game.
GreyWolves starter David Wallum (Linn Benton CC) was dominant from the start, facing the minimum all the way until the bottom of the fourth inning. He only allowed one hit in eight innings of work, and that batter was quickly erased as Wallum dialed up a double play ball to end the fifth.
While Wallum was doing work, Kitsap (7-17) starter Jake Brewer was impressing as well. Gresham was able to get to Brewer for six hits in his own eight innings on the mound, but Brewer did a good job of clutching up whenever the offense had a chance to drive in the go-ahead run.
The BlueJackets finally became the first team to score in the last of the 10th inning. Reliever Carter Buuck hit UCLA product Jack Stronach to start the rally, and Stronach would come around to score after a sacrifice bunt and walkoff double from cleanup man Bryce Peterson.
Relief pitcher Tony Ortiz (1-1) ended up earning the win for Kitsap, while Buuck (0-2) was credited with the loss. Despite the setback on Friday, the GreyWolves still leave Bremerton with a series victory and a winning record for the five-game road trip.
Justin Barchus' team will now return home for a three-game series to close the first half of the season. The set with the visiting Walla Walla Sweets will begin on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. at Oslund Field.
