Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - After needing 14 innings in a 6-5 win Monday night, the Yakima Valley Pippins needed just nine frames on Tuesday, defeating the Victoria HarbourCats 8-1 at Yakima County Stadium.
A Victoria sacrifice fly gave the HarbourCats (12-14) a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the 2 nd, but the Pippins (16-10) wouldn't let the lead last very long. In the bottom of the 2 nd, the Pippins scored twice on an Alex Guenette single and a safety squeeze from Jake Roberts to take a 2-1 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Guenette added a sacrifice fly in the 3 rd, before the Pippins tacked on three more runs in the 4 th to build a 6-1 advantage. Laz Villa, who finished 2-2 with two walks, drove in a run, as did Vince Fernandez, in the three-run 4 th inning.
The Pippins added their final two runs in the bottom of the 5 th off reliever Ryan Keller, including an RBI double off the bat of Justin Jacobs.
The run support was plenty for Pippins starter Eli Morgan, who went six innings for the third straight ballgame, only allowing six hits and a run to improve to 5-0 on the season, the only pitcher in the WCL to start the year 5-0 this summer.
The win not only gave the Pippins a second straight win but clinched a series for the first time in the last three series. Overall, the Pippins have won six of their last eight three-game sets. They'll go for their third sweep of the season Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against Victoria with first pitch set to come from Andrew Woods at 7:05 p.m.
