New Haven County Cutters News Release

West Haven, CT- The New Haven County Cutters (23-20) dropped the finale of a four-game set against the Elmira Pioneers (17-25) 5-2 at Yale Field on a WEBE 108 Family FUNday.

With the Cutters trailing 3-2, Jimmy Hurst looped a leadoff single to left field in the eighth. Hurst caught everyone off guard by stealing second base while the throw hit him and trickled away onto the fringe of the outfield grass. Hurst bounced up and advanced to third with an aggressive head first slide just ahead of the tag. The next three hitters could not plate the run, this proved to be the turning point of the game.

The Elmira win marks the first time all season the Cutters won a series that did not result in a sweep.

With the score already 3-0, Jimmy Hurst led off the fourth inning for New Haven with his eighth homer of the season and the second time he had gone yard in as many days. Hurst finished 2-for-4 in the matinee game.

Greg McCarthy and AJ Brack combined to throw four no-hit innings keeping the lead at one entering the top of the ninth inning. Shane Waroff allowed three hits and two runs in the ninth inning to give Elmira their insurance.

The Cutters scored their second run in the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2 on a throwing error by Northeast League All-Star Dytarious Edwards that allowed Ryan Kane to score from third.

The Magic number remains 3, barring tonight ‚¬â„¢s final in New Jersey, with three game to play. The Cutters will take on the Aces in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader tomorrow in Utica, NY while the Jackals host the Pioneers for four games.

In the event of a tie in the South Division ‚¬â„¢s first half race, their will be a one-game playoff on July 15th at Yale Field against the Jackals to determine the first half winner.

After every Friday night home game this summer, a fireworks show will light up the New Haven sky. ‚¬Å“Win Jonathan Fleisig ‚¬â„¢s Money ‚¬Â is during every Saturday Game at Yale Field where fans can actually win money from the owner of the Cutters for watching and enjoying a night at the ballpark.
