Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will "Camp Out to Sell Out" beginning May 31st (Memorial Day) through June 5th in an effort to raise $20,000 for the Sherwood Baker Memorial Fund. SGT Baker, who resided in Plymouth, was killed on April 26th while serving in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"We wanted to give something back to our community," said Pioneers president/GM Dave Berryman. "After meeting with SGT Baker's family, we decided as an organization that this was the right thing to do."

The Pioneers' entire front office staff, as well as other members of the organization, will set up camp in "Pioneer Village" in front of the team's administrative office, located at 275 Mundy Street, Wilkes-Barre Township, beginning on Monday, May 31st and will remain in camp until the June 5th home game is sold out. The team will hopefully be able to present a check for $20,000 to SGT Baker's family at the June 5th game against the Manchester Wolves, which has also been designated as Military Appreciation Night.

The Pioneers will hold a press conference Thursday, May 27th at 2:00pm at the team's administrative office to officially announce the countdown for the event.

For additional information about the "Camp Out to Sell Out," please contact the Pioneers administrative office at (570) 970-4232.
