
Albany Conquest goes for four

Albany, N.Y., May 26, 2004 â After notching three straight victories, the Albany Conquest will travel to face the Peoria Pirates at 8 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Saturday (May 29) at Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Ill. News Channel 13 WNYT-TV will televise the game live in what is the second of four live broadcasts by the NBC affiliate station. NewsChannel 13's Andrew Catalon and former Albany Firebird Rodney Smith will provide play-by-play and commentary for the broadcast.
The Albany Conquest (3-4) win streak is currently second in arenafootball2. The Birmingham Steeldogs have won six in a row. In the Conquest's three wins, they have defeated teams with a combined record of 13-8. The Peoria Pirates (2-5) are ranked fifth is af2 in scoring defense (38.9).
"We are a completely different team then the squad that started off 0-4 this season," said Albany Conquest Head Coach Rick Buffington. "We have a chance for a fourth straight win and a 4-4 record. This team is playing with confidence, but our guys understand that Peoria is a good team and we have to remain focused on being error free to get this fourth win."
D. Bryant has been nothing short of perfect since taking over at starting QB for the Conquest three weeks ago. In leading Albany to three straight wins, Bryant has an astonishing 129.17 pass rating. He is 56-of-93 for 933 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and just one interception. He also leads the team rushing for six touchdowns.
Conquest offensive specialist Tony Locke, known as "T-Locke" to his teammates, ranks among arenafootball2 league leaders in five categories. Locke is third in scoring (120 points), third in touchdowns (20), eighth in receiving yards (710), tied for eighth in kickoff return average (21.6), and seventh in all-purpose yards (1,274).
The Albany Conquest's next home game is against the Cape Fear Wildcats at Noon on June 6 at Pepsi Arena.
