Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce that offensive/defensive lineman, Chris Ekwueme was reassigned to the team's roster for the 2005 season.
"It's great to have Chris back this season," says Pioneers Head Coach Les Moss. "He was the anchor of our line last season. He should have gotten a shot in the AFL, but I'm sure after this season he definitely will. He is, in my mind, the best center in the league."
In 14 games with the Pioneers, Ekwueme racked up 23 tackles (nine unassisted) with 2 for a loss and 1 sack. He forced two fumbles, recovered one fumble and blocked one field goal.
Ekwueme played for Bryant College a Division II school in Rhode Island. He was a four-year starter and was called a "stand out lineman." He played center, left and right guard as well as right tackle. Ekwueme played every down in his 2001 and 2002 seasons. We was selected to the All-East Coast Athletic Conference 1st team in 1999 and 2002.
Ekwueme attended Baltimore City College High School in Baltimore, MD. While in high school, he excelled at football and lacrosse.
