Elmira Pioneers News Release

Elmira, NY- A four run fourth followed by a two run fifth and another four runs in the sixth gave the North Shore Spirit more than enough offense to knock off the Elmira Pioneers 10-3 on Friday night.

Already trailing 1-0 the Pio's got into an even deeper trouble as Travis Ogelsby launched a three-run homerun to make it a 4-0 game. In the fifth Vic Davilla added another pair of runs with one swing of the bat, putting a two run homer over the leftfield fence. With a 6-0 lead the Spirit would tack on four more insurance runs to go up 10-0. In the seventh inning the Pioneers managed to get on the board as Jeremy Dodson smashed a three-run homer to make it 10-3. The hit was Dodson second of three knocks on the night, helping him break out of a 1-22 slump. But it was too little too late as the Spirit went on to win the game.

On the mound Joe Van Gorder (5-2) took his first loss since his second start of the season. Van Gorder allowed seven hits, three walks and six runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The loss stopped the Pioneers three game-winning streak and dropped the first place Pio's record to 3-2 in the second half. With the win North Shore improved to 4-1 in the second half, maintaining their hold on first place in the Northern Division.
