Elmira Pioneers News Release
Elmira, NY- Julio LaSalle did what he has all year, shutdown opposing hitters, while the Pioneers' offense produced eight runs to help LaSalle get his third win of the season, topping the Northeast League Aces 8-4 on Friday night.
The Pio's got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, getting a run on a stolen bases by Digz Edwards, followed by a throwing error by the catcher to make it 1-0. Steve Checksfield then grounded into a rare two-run groundout, picking up a pair of RBI on the play, making it 3-0 Elmira. The Aces struck for one run in the second on a solo homer by Mike Davis, but the Pioneers answered in the third on an RBI double from Cleatus Davidson, one of his three hits on the night.
In the fourth inning the Pio's would strike for another trio of runs. Jason Bryan drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single followed by Davidson's second RBI hit on the night, a two-run double to make it 7-1. The Aces would make things interesting in the eighth scoring three times to cut the Elmira lead to three. Andy Neufeld doubled in a pair of runs followed by an RBI single from Jason Torres to make it 7-4. Elmira put an exclamation point on the victory with an RBI single by Jobu Morita in the eighth to make it 8-4.
