Cutters Bit By Jackals 9-1

New Haven County Cutters News Release

(West Haven, CT) The New Haven County Cutters batsf were as cool as the weather in Little Falls, NJ, as they drop game two of a three game series to the New Jersey Jackals 9-1 at Yogi Berra Stadium.

The Cutters kept it close early. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Darren Ciraco delivered a second inning one-out homer in his first at-bat since coming back from an injured hand suffered a week ago at Yale Field.

The Jackals made the most of a Cutter miscue in the bottom of the third inning. The Jackals scored five unearned runs in the frame with the big blow again being delivered by power-hitting shortstop Chris Rowan who blasted his second two-run homer in as many days to give NJ a 6-1 lead.

Kevin Forbes came through with a 2-for-4 night with two doubles.

Tony Harden (3-4) got the loss and Brad Whitworth (5-4) got the victory for the Jackals.

Jackal first basemen Kevin Grijak drove in the final three runs for New Jersey. He hit a two-out double in the fourth to drive in two and had a solo homer on the first pitch Laine McKeller threw in a Cutters uniform to cap the scoring in the seventh. Grijak finished his birthday performance 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and was a triple shy of the cycle.

The Cutters stranded eight runners and for the second time in as many games only got one runner to third base outside of the Ciraco homer.

The Cutters and Jackals will wrap up the series tomorrow night in a game that will be broadcasted on the Cutters flagship station AM 1150 WMRD.

The Cutters return home next for a three game home stand that begins on Monday August 9th at 7:05pm. For more information call the Cutters Box Office at (203) 777-5636 or visit the website at www.cuttersbaseball.com
