
Pioneers add pair of hurlers for stretch run

The Elmira Pioneers have added pitchers Jackson Crowther and Keith Forbes to the roster. Crowther was an all-star pitcher with berkshire this season and was acquired by Elmira in a trade for a player to be named later. Forbes was previously pitching with Quebec this season and was signed by the Pioneers off waivers. Both are expected to be officially activated onto the roster for tonight's game. Crowther will be added to the staerting rotation and will likely pitch either Friday or Saturday at Adirondack. Forbes will be added to the Pioneers extremely short bullpen as he tries to help fill the vacancies left by Julio Perez and Matt Pike who were signed by the Yankees organization last week.
Crowther was 5-7, 4.04 with Berkshire this season and was the team's lone all-star. He began the season 5-2 when the team was 15-40. On the season he has gone 84.2ip, 30bb, 54k's, 94h, op avg of .267.
Crowther was originally an Expos farm-hand and went a combined 3-4, 4.73 in 39 games, 1 start over 3 seasons in the Montreal farm system with the Gulf Coast League Expos (Jupiter, Florida), Cape Fear, (Fayetteville, NC, South Atlantic League) and Clinton, Iowa (low-A Midwest League).
Forbes was a 21st round choice of the Padres in 1998 out of Lurleen Wallace College (Alabama). The Malden, Mass. native sat out 2001 with injury. He last full season was 2000 in Rancho Cucamonga (California Lg., A+) where he was 5-6, 1sv, 4.04 in a whopping 74 appearances totalling 98ip. He walked 59 and had 99 K's.
In 1999 with Fort Wayne (Midwest League, low-A) he was 3-4, 6.18 in 42g, 67ip, 65bb, 70 K's.
