Pilots Top Red Wings, End 3 Game Slide

July 2, 2018 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Newark Pilots News Release

The Geneva Red Wings came to Newark for the fifth meeting of the year between the two teams. The teams had split the previous four games, with the most recent being a Geneva 17-4 blowout.

Tonight's game would be a closer contest as the Pilots grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the third behind a pair of RBI's from Matt Cerfolio.

Red Wing Brian Knapp would cut the Pilots lead in half when he hit a solo home run to right to make it a 2-1 ball game.

Giovani Torres proved to be clutch at the plate tonight for the Pilots as he had 3 RBI's all together, including two in the fifth inning that gave the Pilots a 4-1 lead.

Jesse Hall had 3 RBI's for the Red Wings, allowing Geneva to hang around until the bottom of the seventh when the PIlots would score 2 more to cushion their advantage.

Newark would go on to win 7-5 as they picked up their seventh win of the season. The two teams will battle again tomorrow night in Geneva.
