Saugerties Stallions News Release
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - On Monday, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs defeated the Saugerties Stallions 14-1 at Cantine Field in Saugerties, N.Y.
The DiamondDawgs struck early when Ryan Toohers (Villanova) led off the second inning with a home run.
Alexis Monge-Rodriguez (Barry) singled and Ryan Hernandez (Albany) walked with one out in the third. A Toohers double plated Monge-Rodriguez and a ground-rule double from Austin Pollack (Manhattanville) would score Hernandez and Toohers to extend Mohawk Valley's lead to 4-0.
The scoring stalled until fifth inning when Toohers hit a two-run home run, his second of the game, to give the DiamondDawgs a 6-0 advantage over Saugerties. In the seventh inning Mohawk Valley stayed hot and plated three more runs.
In the eighth inning, the DiamondDawgs continued their offensive attack by adding another two runs to make it 11-0. Saugerties got on the board in the bottom of the eighth after Herman Alvarado (Nyack) scored on a sacrifice fly from Cam Coakley (Stetson).
The DiamondDawgs tacked on three more runs after a single from Hernandez, a walk from Sam Beck (Skidmore), and an RBI single from Pollack in the ninth inning, making it 14-1. The Stallions put a pair of runners on in the ninth failed to score a run.
Sam Turcotte (Stony Brook) earned the win for the DiamondDawgs, while John Clayton (Albany) took the loss. The DiamondDawgs play next on July 3 at the Utica Blue Sox while the Stallions play next at home on July 4 against the Jamestown Jammers.
