Pilots pick up 2nd win in a row

The Newark Pilots defeated the Geneva Red Wings 7-1 to start their first winning streak of the year. Ryan Marketell (1-0) picked up the win for the Pilots, pitching 6 strong innings with 1 earned run on 8 hits.

The Pilots got to work early in this one, tallying 2 hits a piece in the first 2 innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. It was a solo home run by Ty Babin that pushed Newark's lead to 5-0. Babin became the first Pilot besides Allen Murphy to notch a home run this year.

First baseman for the Pilots Jared DeSantolo was strong at the plate as well, going 2-5 with an RBI.

Nick Carnevale was 2-4, driving in the only run of the day for the Red Wings.

Newark returns home on Thursday for a double header with the Elmira Pioneers. First pitch for Game 1 will be at 3:35, followed by Game 2 at 7:05.
