Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Kelowna Rockets 2-0 Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna in a battle of netminders in Western Hockey League action.
Thunderbirds goalie Calvin Pickard turned in a first-star performance, shutting the door on 32 Rockets shots in the Thunderbirds win. Kelowna's Jordon Cooke was equal to the task, facing 30 shots and making several key saves in a third-star performance.
After two scoreless periods, the Thunderbirds scored twice on third period power plays. Seth Swenson opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the frame when his long distance wrist-shot found its way into the net through traffic. Later in the period Colin Jacobs converted on a close-in wrist shot into the top corner.
The Rockets were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Thunderbirds were 2-for-3.
The Rockets now head into a home and home series with rival Kamloops this weekend, playing in Kamloops on Friday night before the two teams will meet again on Saturday night at Prospera Place.
