Phoenix Mercury News Release
INJURY UPDATE
Penny Taylor, who suffered a sprained right ankle on Friday at Indiana and missed the Mercury's game at New York on Saturday, is listed as day-to-day.
CLINCHING/SEEDING SCENARIOS
The Mercury has already clinched its second consecutive playoff berth and third postseason bid in the last four years but is still looking to wrap up the second seed in the Western Conference and home court advantage through the Conference Semifinals. Holding the tiebreaker over the remaining eligible teams in the West (Los Angeles, San Antonio, Minnesota), the defending champions can seal the second seed with a win Tuesday night at Los Angeles.
POSTSEASON STORYLINES
* The Mercury is looking to become just the third team in WNBA history to repeat as champions.
* Reigning WNBA MVP Diana Taurasi, who has won a championships every time she has reached the postseason, is looking to cement her legacy as one of the best players all-time by adding a third WNBA ring to her already long list of titles which include three NCAA Championships with the University of Connecticut and two Olympic gold medals.
* President and General Manager Ann Meyers Drysdale has once again put together a championship contending team acquiring Candice Dupree in the offseason and bringing two-time WNBA champion Kara Braxton to the Mercury front court mid-season. Also key in the Mercury's repeat bid is the re-signing of All-Star guard/forward Penny Taylor and guard Temeka Johnson prior to the 2010 season.
* After one season with the Mercury, Dupree has made a legitimate case as the best forward in the WNBA averaging 16.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Dupree is on pace to shatter the league record for highest field goal percentage in a season making 67.7% of her shots.
