Philadelphia Union News Release

Chester, Pa. (February 14, 2011) - Philadelphia Union have secured the rights to 21-year-old forward Chris Agorsor via a weighted lottery conducted on Monday afternoon at Major League Soccer headquarters in New York City, the club announced today. MLS expansion clubs Porland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps also participated in the lottery. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Agorsor, a Baltimore native known for his speed in attack, has been a highly touted prospect since his high school days. The Baltimore Bays product was considered one of the top recruits in the nation when he joined the University of Virginia for the 2008 season. In his stay at UVA, Agorsor scored six goals and added two assists in 20 games played, 15 of which he started. After his sophomore season, Agorsor left the NCAA title-winning Cavaliers and went on lengthy training spells with Manchester United in England and CD Nacional in Portugal.

Prior to joining UVA, Agorsor was named the 2007-08 Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year after scoring 24 goals and adding eight assists in only 15 games for McDonogh School. Agorsor was also named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Year.

Agorsor was a member of the U-20 U.S. National Team following stints with the U-18 and U-16 squads. In 2006, the forward was a member of the US-Youth Soccer U-16 National Championship team.
