Philadelphia Union News Release

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union announced today that the club has reached agreement on a new contract with Raymon Gaddis that sees the 28-year-old defender return ahead of his eighth season with the team.

The club's longest-tenured player, Gaddis originally joined Philadelphia after being selected 35th overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He is the Union's all-time leader in minutes played (14,468).

"We are looking forward to welcoming Ray back to the Union," said Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. "He is a tireless worker with an incredible heart and attitude to match. A crucial part of our locker room, he provides an excellent veteran presence on and off the field. He also serves as a role model for our younger players, particularly our young fullbacks."

Gaddis has been one of the steadiest figures in Philadelphia Union history. In addition to the Union's all-time minutes mark, he also is the all-time Philadelphia leader in games started (162). Additionally, his 172 games played ranks second in team history (Sebastien Le Toux, 175).

Off the field, Gaddis is renowned for his commitment to giving back to his community. He was Philadelphia's 2018 nominee for the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award, in part for his active role in the Union's Fearless Heroes program, which allowed pediatric cancer patients to design comic book covers based on their superhero personas.

TRANSACTION: Philadelphia Union re-signs defender Raymon Gaddis on January 9, 2019.
