Philadelphia Union News Release

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union midfielder Borek Dockal was voted the Alcatel Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 17th week of the 2018 MLS season.

Dockal and the Union defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC by a 4-0 final score on Saturday, June 23 at Talen Energy Stadium, with the Czech Republic native recording the first two goals as part of the victory. The tallies were Dockal's fourth and fifth of the season, and he now leads the club in both goals (five) and in assists (six). The second goal, a left-footed strike to the top corner, is nominated for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award.

In tallying the game-winning goal vs. Vancouver, Dockal now has three such strikes in the 2018 season, already tying eight other players in team history for the most game-winning goals in a single campaign. The midfielder is two behind Jack McInerney, who had five game-winners in the 2013 season, in the category.

Since May 12, when Dockal assisted on Cory Burke's game-winning goal in a win at Montreal, the midfielder has totaled four goals and five assists. His nine combined goals/assists over that span ties him with San Jose's Danny Hoesen (seven goals, two assists) for the most in all of Major League Soccer. He is one of four players leaguewide with as many assists since that date.

Dockal becomes the eighth player in Union history to earn MLS Player of the Week recognition, joining Sebastien Le Toux (2010, Weeks 3 and 16), Justin Mapp (2011 Week 11), Jack McInerney (2013 Week 8), Chris Pontius (2016 Week 14), Roland Alberg (2016 Week 16), Ilsinho (2016 Week 18) and CJ Sapong (2017 Week 10).

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is chosen each week of the regular season by members of the North American Soccer Reporters. The organization includes print, television, radio and online journalists who cover domestic men's soccer in the United States and Canada.
