Philadelphia Union Match Tonight will Honor U.S. military

Chester, Pa. (July 20, 2013 ) - Tonight's match at PPL Park between the Philadelphia Union and Portland Timbers, a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff broadcast on Comcast SportsNet, is presented by AT&T and will honor the U.S. military through several initiatives, ending in postgame fireworks.

Efforts and activities hosted by the Philadelphia Union for tonight's match include:

- Immediately following the end of the match, PPL Park will host a fireworks display for fans in attendance.

- The first 5,000 fans to enter PPL Park for the match will receive complimentary drawstring bags, courtesy of AT&T.

- As part of the Tickets for Troops promotion, local companies and organizations have teamed up with the Union to donate tickets to the troops and their families. The Union offered a special ticket package that consists of 15 of PPL Park's best Sideline tickets for only $600. All donations of 15 or more tickets were matched by the Union and donated on behalf of you, your company or your organization to the Veterans Tickets Foundation. Each military member will also be given a Union scarf upon arrival at PPL Park for the game.

o Approximately 900 tickets to tonight's match were donated to our troops by local businesses, organizations, including the Sons of Ben, and the Philadelphia Union.

- The Union have also teamed up with Liberty USO, a nonprofit that supports local troops by providing morale, welfare and recreational services, as letters of encouragement and gratitude that are brought in by Union fans to today's match will be sent to troops serving overseas.

- In support of children with parents who are on active duty, the Union are holding a one-subject spiral notebook drive before today's match, with a goal of collecting 300 notebooks to be donated to 100 children for school this fall.

- Philadelphia Union fans serving overseas have also sent in video messages to friends and family at PPL Park that will be displayed on the video board prior to the match.

- Additionally, Danny Cruz' father, Army Sgt. 1st class Alejo Cruz Jr . who is currently deployed in Afghanistan, recorded a special message for Union fans that will be shown prior to kickoff.

- Military members with valid IDs will also receive a $5 discount for tickets purchased at the box office.
