FORMER PHANTOM WINS STANLEY CUP
Former Phantoms forward Ruslan Fedotenko played a key role in the Tampa Bay Lightning capturing the Stanley Cup. The 25-year-old recorded 14 points (12G, 2A) in 22 playoff games, including both goals in Tampa Bay's 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames in Game Seven on June 7. Fedotenko finished tied for second in the NHL in postseason goals, while adding five power-play goals and three game-winners.
Fedotenko compiled 51 points (17G, 34A) in 75 games as a Phantom from 1999-2001. He was named the Phantoms' Co-Rookie of the Year in 1999-2000 after recording 50 points (16G, 34A) in 67 games, while his point and assist totals from that season remain records for Phantoms rookies. Fedotenko is the first former Phantom to go on and win a Stanley Cup ring.
TILEY LEADS MILWAUKEE TO CALDER CUP
Former Phantoms defenseman Brad Tiley and the Milwaukee Admirals won the 2004 Calder Cup title over the weekend with a four-game sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The 2000 winner of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's top defenseman, Tiley registered a goal and six assists over 22 playoff games to earn his first career Calder Cup ring.
Tiley totaled 87 points (25G, 62A) in 191 games with Philadelphia from 2000-03. He ranks third on the club's all-time list for points by a defenseman and was a two-time winner of the Barry Ashbee Award as the Phantoms' best defenseman.
FUREY SIGNS WITH GERMAN TEAM
Defenseman Kirk Furey signed with the Kassel Huskies of Germany's Deutsche Eishockey Liga on May 25. The 28-year-old topped the Phantoms with a plus-22 rating this season and compiled 37 points (9G, 28A) over 94 career games with the team from 2002-04. Furey will skate alongside former Phantom Dean Melanson with Kassel.
VANDERMEER ON KELLY CUP-WINNING SQUAD
A familiar name was on the roster of the ECHL-champion Idaho Steelheads this season. Defenseman Dan Vandermeer, the brother of Peter and Jim, recorded 11 points and a club-best plus-13 rating in 18 playoff games to help Idaho capture the Kelly Cup title. Former Phantom Ian Forbes was on the roster of the runner-up Florida Everblades.
MEYER TO APPEAR AT KIDS TIME ON SUNDAY
Defenseman Freddy Meyer will be a guest at Kids Time Xtreme from 2:00-3:00 p.m. this Sunday, June 13 at Granite Run Mall in Media, Pa. Meyer will answer questions, take pictures and sign autographs at the event, which is the No. 1 kids interactive mall tour in the country.
PHANTOMS SEEKING YOUNG ARTISTS AGAIN
The Phantoms are once again seeking young artists from across the Delaware Valley to provide drawings and paintings for the team's 2004-05 season ticket book. For the second year in a row, a total of 40 submissions from kids ages 14 and under will be chosen, with a different winner featured on season tickets for each of the Phantoms' 40 home games next year.
Kids will have until July 9 to submit their drawing or painting of a Phantoms game, favorite player, mascot Phlex or any memorable Phantoms experience. Official coloring sheets can be found on www.phantomshockey.com, or to have an entry form mailed to you, please call 215-465-4522. Completed coloring sheets should be mailed to Philadelphia Phantoms, Attn: Season Ticket Coloring Contest, Wachovia Spectrum, 3601 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148.
In addition to having their drawings or paintings printed in the season ticket books, each of the 40 winners and their families will receive tickets to the Phantoms game that his/her artwork is used. In addition, the winner's artwork will be displayed on the concourse that night, and the winner will have the opportunity to ride the Zamboni during an intermission at the game.
