Youngstown Phantoms News Release
MUSKEGON, Mich. - The night before he was slated to take part in the inaugural USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, Youngstown Phantoms defenseman Chris Bradley got some more good news. The 18-year-old blue liner was named CCM Defensive Player of the Week after his four-goal outburst over the past weekend, the league announced Monday evening.
Bradley, a native of Williamsville, N.Y., scored a hat trick - netting one goal in each period - Saturday night in the Phantoms' 8-6 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers. He became the first defenseman in Phantoms' franchise history to score three in a game, and the first USHL blue liner to achieve the feat since former Cedar Rapid RoughRider Bryce Aneloski did so in 2009-2010.
Then Sunday afternoon, Bradley, who had just one goal entering the weekend, netted the Phantoms' lone goal in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Steel. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound defenseman now has five goals to go along with six assists for 11 points in 29 games this season.
"Chris has been great for us all year, but the goals just didn't seem to be going in for him," Head Coach Anthony Noreen said. "Then all of the sudden [Saturday] he comes out and puts three pucks in the net.
"Before the game, we coaches were saying we need some more offense out of our defensemen. It was great to see. There was no one who deserved it more than him."
This is the first time that Bradley, who is committed to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has captured the league's weekly accolades. The second-year defenseman registered three goals, nine assists and 11 points while playing in all but one game for the Phantoms last season as a 17-year-old. Earlier this season, he was named to Team USA for the World Junior A Challenge and he will take the ice for Team East in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Mich., tonight.
The Top Prospects Game will have a free online broadcast delivered live on FASTHockey.com, the USHL's exclusive online broadcast provider. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. EST.
Viewers can watch the webcast live via multiple formats - the USHL's Facebook page, through a previously established FASTHockey account, or Roku users can watch the game on the platform's USHL channel.
