Missouri River Otters News Release
Two last-minute Lars Pettersen goals propelled the River Otters to a dramatic comeback against the Kalamazoo Wings Wednesday night at the Family Arena in a 4-3 shootout loss.
The first period was a costly one for the River Otters. Not only did they give up two goals, one to Tyler Willis and one to Sean Starke, but they lost defenseman Josh Legge to an injury.
The lone goal in the second period belonged to the Otters, and it came on the power play. Mat Snesrud got the rebound of his own shot and fired a short-side wrister that beat K-Wings goaltender Chad Alban.
Kalamazoo extended their lead in the third period on a Kevin Kotyluk goal, and the K-Wings took a two-goal advantage late into the final period. With one minute remaining in the game, Snesrud partially fanned on a shot, and the puck went right to Lars Pettersen, who ripped a snapper behind Alban to cut the lead to one. Referee Jack McCoy called a penalty on Chris Bell with 45 seconds left and the outlook looked grim for the Otters. But with thirty seconds remaining, Barrie Moore forced a turnover in the K-Wings zone and fed a wide-open Pettersen in front of the net. The Otters center made no mistake, zinging the puck top-shelf to complete the rather implausible comeback.
In the shootout, Tim Turner was the only player on either team who could score, and the K-Wings skated off with two points. Alban made 25 saves in the victory, while Reiter made 25 saves in the shootout loss.
The Otters will take on the K-Wings Friday night at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the River Otters B2 Webcast, which can be found at the River Otters website!
