TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The first of five meetings and the first of two in Richmond this season. Muskegon is the defending Colonial Cup champion. âDogs were 2-1 vs. Muskegon last season, 2-0 at home. Fury is in first place in the Central Division by two points over Flint and has a three game winning streak. The âDogs are in a third place tie with Elmira in the East, eight points behind Adirondack.
LAST ACTION: Richmond lost 8-4 to Elmira Sunday. The Jackals blew the game open with a six goal second period. Mike Dombkiewicz, Francis Belanger, and David Dartsch had a goal and assist for the âDogs. Muskegon edged Flint 4-3 on the road Sunday after jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first. Brant Blackned and B.J. Gaustad had a goal and assist for Muskegon.
'DOG BITES: The 'Dogs third three game winning streak of the season (which equals a season high) ended Saturday. The 'Dogs equaled a club record with their eight goal outburst at Adirondack Wednesday. Mike Dombkiewicz has points in three straight games. Richmond completed a stretch of 11 games in 19 days Sunday. The 'Dogs play 12 games in the first 22 days of January. Richmond will finish a stretch of 12 out of 16 games on the road this Saturday. The 62 shots allowed by the 'Dogs Saturday in Danbury is a club record and a UHL season high. Ryan McIntosh made a club record 59 saves, also a UHL season high, in that game. The 'Dogs lost when leading after two periods for the first time this season Saturday in Danbury. That game also ended a four game road unbeaten streak vs. Eastern Division clubs. Richmond has played four straight games short-benched. Mark Turner's four game scoring streak ended Sunday vs. Elmira. Francis Belanger's three game scoring streak ended Saturday vs. Danbury. David Hymovitz three game scoring streak ended Sunday vs. Elmira. Ryan McIntosh has started four straight games in net for the 'Dogs. David Dartsch came out of retirement to join the 'Dogs in Danbury. He had the 'Dogs first "Gordie Howe" hat trick of the season Sunday vs. Elmira (goal, assist, and fight). Simo Pulkki scored his first goal as a 'Dog Wednesday vs. Adirondack. The 'Dogs have been out-shot in four straight games. David Hymovitz is tied for 13th in the league in scoring. Trevor Senn is second in penalty minutes and third in majors. Mark Turner is tied for second in shorthanded goals. Kyle Sheen leads UHL rookies in penalty minutes and is second in game-winning goals by a rookie.
FURY NOTES: The defending Colonial Cup champs feature three of the UHL's top 16 scorers: Robin Bouchard (tied seventh), Jeff Nelson (tied ninth), and Brant Blackned (16th). Clayton Pool is third in goals against average (1.98). The Fury leads the UHL in power play percentage.
NEXT UP: Richmond visits Elmira Friday (7:20 broadcast on Talk Radio 1480). The âDogs are back home Sunday vs. the Jackals at 5:05. That game is Comcast Kid's Club Night.
