Petrick Delivers

Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

SAN ANGELO, TX - Foster Field was once a house of horrors for the Prairie Dogs. One heart- breaker after another led to 10 straight losses in San Angelo over a five week span. But after eight outstanding innings from Billy Petrick and a season-high nine strikeouts from the right- hander, the Dogs hung on for their third straight win at Foster Field, 4-2.

Petrick, making his third straight start against the Colts, stranded nine Colts aboard including multiple runners in three different innings. Petrick's first gut check surfaced in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, the 6'7" righty struck out Cory Patton and forced Landon Camp to bounce into an inning-ending fielder's choice. Petrick again got out of trouble by stranding a pair in the seventh inning with consecutive fly outs from Daryl Jones and Patton.

The former big-leaguer turned in his third eight inning performance of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) on nine hits and recording a season-best nine punch-outs.

Abilene broke through first against lefty Logan Williamson after Jason Martin cracked a two-out double to left-center in the third. Eddie Browne was next up and poked a run-scoring single into right field, giving the Dogs a 1-0 lead.

The Colts answered in the bottom of the inning when Danny Hernandez was hit by a pitch and scored on Corry Patton's R.B.I. single.

Abilene got two more in the fourth on Martin's R.B.I., infield single to score Bryan Fogle. Later in the inning, Danny Gonzalez scampered home on a wild pitch. Martin went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in.

After the Colts scratched across an eighth inning tally off Petrick, Ray Silva entered in the ninth and retired the side in order to record his seventh save and second in as many days.

The Dogs and Colts continue a four-game series with game two at Walt Driggers Field on Monday night. If you cannot make it to the park, hear the game on 106.9 KLGD or on the internet at abileneprairiedogs.com beginning with the First Financial Pregame Show at 6:55.
