Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MISSISSIPPI - The Youngstown SteelHounds in conjunction with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League have announced today that forward Petr Pohl has been called up to the AHL franchise.

Pohl, 21, was the fifth round draft pick (# 133) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Prostejov, Czech Republic played one game for the Crunch last season and was assigned to Youngstown to start the 2007-08 season on October 19th.

In 12 games for the SteelHounds he has become the team's leading scorer with 20 points coming from eight goals and 12 assists. Of his 20 points, 17 have come on a current eight game point streak that consists of seven goals and 10 assists.

"This is a well deserved call up for Petr. He has been one of our best players offensively especially on the power play and penalty kill" said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "His relentless puck pursuit has created so many turnovers and that is why he has 20 points in 12 games. It is great to see someone get rewarded after all the work he has done."

Forward Kirill Starkov has been assigned to Youngstown. Starkov, 20, was the sixth round draft pick (#189) for Columbus in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Yekaterinburg, Russia is in his rookie season and in eight games for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL he has zero points. Last season he had 34 goals and 37 assists in 72 games for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.

The Syracuse Crunch is the AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Hounds will visit the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday night at 8:05 on AM600 WSOM and SteelHounds.com.
