Petes Win 10th J. Ross Robertson Cup, Defeating London Knights in Six Games

(Peterborough, ON) - On Sunday, May 21, the Peterborough Petes hosted the London Knights for game six of their OHL Championship best of seven series. The Petes won the game 2-1, winning their 10th J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions and advancing to the Memorial Cup for the 10th time in team history.

Michael Simpson led the way for the Petes, stopping 36/37 for his 16th win of the playoffs. Tucker Robertson had a goal and an assist, while Avery Hayes added a goal. Brennan Othmann, Cam Gauvreau, and Donovan McCoy all had an assist.

After the game, Michael Simpson was awarded the Wayne Gretzky Trophy as the 2023 OHL Playoff MVP.

A team celebration event will take place on Monday, May 22 at Quaker Foods City Square from 3-6 p.m.. The event will feature the entire Petes team (including players, coaches, and staff) as well as the J. Ross Robertson Cup. Fans are encouraged to get to the square early in order to cheer on the team on arrival. An official championship photo of the entire Petes team and community will be organized, so fans are encouraged to wear maroon and white. Championship merchandise will be available for purchase at the celebration event.

The 2023 Memorial Cup will take place in Kamloops, BC beginning on May 25, with the national Championship game scheduled for Sunday, June 4. The Petes first game will take place on Saturday, May 27 against the WHL Champion. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EDT.

For fans interested in traveling to Kamloops to cheer on the Petes at the Memorial Cup, please note that the team does not have any game ticket, travel, or accommodation packages available to extend to fans. Any interested fans are strongly encouraged to arrange tickets through the Sandman Centre or other official sources before making travel arrangements, as capacity is limited in Kamloops.

The Petes are back in action for their first Memorial Cup game on Saturday, May 27 at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, BC. The game will be against the WHL Champion with puck drop scheduled at 8:00 p.m. EDT. Fans can catch the games on OHL Live, TSN, Freq 90.5, Oldies 96.7, and Classic Rock 107.9.
