Niagara IceDogs News Release
PETERBOROUGH, ON - Coming off of an OT loss in Mississauga last night, the IceDogs closed out their week tonight with their 5th game in 7 days at the Peterborough Memorial Centre to take on the Petes. It was Pride Night in Peterborough and the Petes wore specially designed Pride jerseys to auction off in support of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
Niagara came into the contest 11 points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Peterborough entered the game 4th place in the Eastern Conference and 2nd in the east division with a 24-14-1-2 record.
IceDogs called up William Stewart from the OJHL as an AP with Kevin He and Andrew LeBlanc were out of the lineup up front. Cato and Wycisk are still out on the backend, as Gerard Keane checks back in after his 2-game suspension for his first game as an Assistant Captain.
1st Period
The game's opening goal came from Peterborough's Tucker Robertson at 9:03 into the first frame. Just minutes before the end of the period, Jack Dubois extended the lead for the home team. The IceDogs had two powerplay chances in the second half of the period but were not able to capitalize.
After 20 minutes of play the shots read 13-11 for the home team.
2nd Period
At 4:29 into the second frame, a drop pass from Daniel Michaud would send Alex Assadourian breaking in for a shot on goal while Zakary Lavoie trailed behind to find the rebound and cut the deficit in half. Assadourian's assist marked his 6th of the season and his first point as a Dog since being acquired from Sudbury at the trade deadline. Just over thirty seconds later, Othmann answered to maintain the Pete's advantage. Halfway through the second frame newly acquired Pete, Owen Beck extended the home team lead. Despite a 5-on-3 advantage chance and 15 shots on the period for Niagara, they went to the dressing room trailing 4-1.
After 40 minutes, Rosenzweig had 29 saves on 33 shots while the IceDogs had registered 26 shots on the Peterborough net-minder.
3rd Period
The closest IceDogs chance came 8 minutes into the third, Alex Assadourian almost jammed in his first goal as an IceDog but after the review, the goal was overturned due to a kicking motion. Four more Petes goals would put an end to this game.
The IceDogs next home game is a rescheduled matchup on Wednesday, January 18th vs the Sudbury Wolves.
