Peterborough Petes News Release

(Peterborough, ON) - After paying tribute to the men and women who fought for our freedom, the Petes took to the Memorial Centre ice on Saturday night against the Barrie Colts. Fans got all the hockey they could handle, with Chris Paquette scoring the game-winning-goal in overtime.

Barrie opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Justin Murray just 2:43 into the game. Although Nikita Korostelev tied the game with his fourth goal in two games, Joey Keane put Barrie ahead 2-1 after twenty minutes.

Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Chris Paquette tied the game on the powerplay with the only goal in the second stanza.

In the third, Jonathan Ang scored twice, but so did the Colts, forcing overtime. Ang and Matt Timms set up Chris Paquette in the high slot two minutes into the extra session, and the Petes secured top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 5-4 overtime win.

Ang (2g, 2a), Korostelev (2g, 1a) and Murray (1g, 1a) were the first, second, and third stars of the game, while Alex Black was named the Mark's Hardest Working Player.

The Petes and Colts were both 2 for 7 on the power play. Dylan Wells made 32 saves, while Leo Lazerev stopped 31 shots.

Specialty plaid jerseys that the Petes wore for Thursday's United Way fundraising game are still being auctioned online, with all proceeds benefitting United Way Peterborough. Bidding closes at 7:00pm on Sunday, November 12.

The Petes return to action on Friday, November 10 at 7:0pm in Kingston before hosting those same Frontenacs at 2:05pm on Sunday, November 12. Game tickets, which include a free post-game skate with the Petes presented by Russelle Toyota, are available starting at $8 through the Collins Barrow PMC Box Office, online or, by phone at (705) 743-3561.
