Peterborough Petes News Release

(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes are excited to announce that we have been selected as an affiliate centre with the Toronto Maple Leafs to host the NHL/NHLPA First Shift program for the 2021-22 season.

For an eighth consecutive year, Bauer, Hockey Canada, the NHL, and the NHLPA are proud to bring this wonderful program to communities and families across the country by combining the strength, knowledge, and expertise of all partners. First Shift is a program designed to reduce the financial barriers of hockey and provide a safe and welcoming six-week learn to play program that focuses on having fun while learning basic skills.

The Petes will be hosting the First Shift program in the spring of 2022, with the welcoming event on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm, where all registered participants will receive their equipment. Following the welcoming event, the Petes will provide six introductory skills sessions and a "learn how to register" event, to onboard all participating skaters into the local minor hockey programs.

"We're extremely excited to be a host centre for the First Shift program," says Shelbi Kilcollins, the Petes Director of Marketing and Growth. "The Petes are passionate about making hockey more accessible, and the opportunity to work with these incredible groups is fantastic."

To be eligible to participate, children must be born between January 1, 2011 and May 1, 2016. The registration period for First Shift, hosted by the Petes, will open on June 15, 2021 at 12:00 pm ET (noon).

The Petes welcome parents in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes area who are interested or have questions regarding the First Shift program, can sign up for a free webinar that will take place on Wednesday, June 9 at 6:00 pm .
