Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes selected three players in the 2019 OHL Under-18 Priority Selection on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.
In the first round, with the tenth overall pick, the Petes selected Ellis Rickwood of the Brantford 99ers. The 5'11.5", 170lbs centre led the Alliance Midget league in points and assists with 16 goals, 48 assists, 62 points, and 22 penalty minutes in 35 games. The Toronto native was a member of the 2018 Alliance Minor Midget Champion 99ers.
"It's a dream come true to be drafted by the Petes, especially after watching last year's draft," commented Rickwood. "Seeing my name pop up was a great feeling."
"Ellis is a good playmaker with good vision," detailed Petes Major Midget/Junior A Scout Brian Errey. "He's a 'pass first' guy."
In the rounds to follow, the team added two promising 2002-born players, a goalie and a defenceman, to the depth chart. They are as follows:
1st round, 10th overall: Ellis Rickwood, Brantford 99ers, C, 5'11.5", 170lbs
2nd round, 30th overall: Ben Edwards, Toronto Titans, G, 6'1", 170lbs
3rd round, 49th overall: Chase MacIntyre, Mississauga Senators, D, 5'11", 180lbs
"We're excited to have added three players - a centre, a goalie, and a defenceman - to our organization through this year's Under-18 draft to give us additional depth," commented Petes General Manager Mike Oke. "We expect them to come into training camp to compete for a full-time spot on next season's roster."
