Lancaster Stormers News Release
Jason Perry homered in consecutive innings, driving in a total of five runs, as the Lancaster Barnstormers took down the York Revolution, 11-6, in front of a record crowd in York's home opener on Friday evening.
Trailing, 5-4, entering the seventh inning, the Barnstormers got a leadoff bunt single by Rodney Medina, who then advanced on a wild pitch by Brian Holliday (0-1). Lloyd Turner hit a bouncer back to the mound. Holliday froze Medina off second base but waited a split second too long to make a throw, and Medina dove back ahead of Brandon Pinckney's tag. Perry then put Lancaster in the lead to stay with a booming homer to Sovereign Bank Stadium's deep right center field.
Lancaster would strike for three more in the eighth to open the team's biggest lead of the season. Bryan Sabatella, who tripled in a run as a pinch hitter in the sixth, drove a double over the head of center fielder Kennard Jones to lead off. Amadeo Zazueta laid a bunt down the first base line, but Sabatella beat Matt Padgett's high throw to third putting two men aboard. Medina drove in a run when his pop fly to center resulted in a force play at second. Medina was thrown out stealing, but Turner walked and took second on a wild pitch. Perry followed with an opposite field homer over York's characteristic 37-foot high wall in left as the Barnstormers stretched the lead to 10-5.
The Revolution put together a threat in the bottom of the eighth against winner Tom Cochran (1-0). Kennard Jones reached on a bad hop single and was forced at second by Keoni DeRenne. Padgett followed with a single, and Matt Esquivel lined a base hit to left center to cut the lead to 10-6. Cochran walked the left-handed Jason Aspito, brining Tom Collaro to the plate as the tying run. Von Hayes countered with Juan Ovalles who retired Collaro on a fly ball to center. The right-hander survived two baserunners in the ninth for his first Atlantic League save.
The Barnstormers scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Corey Thurman on an RBI single by L.J. Biernbaum and sacrifice fly by Aaron Herr. York came back with five unanswered runs over the next three innings. Padgett doubled home a run in the first and, in turn, scored on a single by Aspito. DeRenne produced two more in the second for a 4-2 lead, and Josh Johnson extended the lead to 5-2 with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd.
