Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today the retirement of forward Tyler Perry. An injury to his left wrist, sustained last season, is the cause for the decision.
Perry, 29, from Vancouver, British Columbia retires as the 5th leading scorer in FireAntz history with 28 goals, 56 assists and 84 points 62 games played. A 6th round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1995 NHL draft, Perry played professionally for five seasons. He totaled 65 goals, 125 assists and 190 points playing for three teams.
"It saddens me greatly that this team is losing such an unbelievable hockey player." Player/Assistant Coach Rob Meanchoff added, "Tyler has been a good friend and great teammate. I support Tyler, his family, and his decision to retire and hope that he has as much success off the ice, in his future endeavors, as he has had on it."
The FireAntz begin their 5th Anniversary season on October 27 as they host the expansion Richmond Renegades.
