Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - Mikey Perez and Carson McCusker both homered in the series finale Sunday, leading Fort Myers to a 4-2 win at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
The 4-2 victory sealed the first series win for the Mighty Mussels (41-40, 7-8) since May 9-14 when they swept Tampa. It's also their second series victory on the road, and their first since April 25-30 in Daytona.
McCusker started the game with a long solo shot to right center against starting pitcher Sean Nolin (0-1). McCusker hit three homers in the six-game series and is batting .405 through his first nine games in the Twins' organization.
Still leading 1-0 in the top of the third, McCusker and Rubel Cespedes both singled to start the inning. Two batters later, Perez pulled a single into left to extend the lead to 2-0.
Mussels' starter John Klein worked four scoreless innings in his Low-A debut, allowing just one hit and two walks while fanning five. Samuel Perez (5-1) notched a scoreless fifth to get the win.
Leading 2-0 in the fifth, Cespedes singled to center with one out. Two batters later, Perez cranked a two-run shot to left to make it 4-0 Fort Myers.
Jupiter rallied for two runs in the sixth before Ricardo Velez entered to pitch Fort Myers out of a jam. Velez tossed a perfect seventh to punch his first Low-A save.
The Mussels will enjoy a four-day All-Star Break before returning to action at Hammond Stadium on Friday. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
