LAST WEEK'S RESULTS

Wednesday, November 7: PENGUINS 1, Senators 0 (SO)...

Jeff Zatkoff made 32 saves through overtime and stopped 6-of-8 in the shootout as he outdueled Senators goalie Robin Lehner to give the Penguins a 1-0 win over Binghamton.

Rookie Tom Kuhnhackl recorded the winning goal in the top of round eight to help seal the win for WBS. Paul Thompson and Trevor Smith also scored for WBS. It was Zatkoff's second shutout of the season.

Friday, November 9: PENGUINS 1, Bears 3...

Hershey used a 3-for-7 performance on the power play to down Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 3-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena. A scoreless first gave way to a second period where Boyd Kane and Zach Hamill each converted during the man-advantage for Hershey.

Riley Holzapfel cut the Bears' lead in half at 10:49 of the third, but Jeff Taffe clinched the win with an empty-net power play goal with 1.1 seconds remaining. Jeff Zatkoff made 18 saves on 20 shots as his three-game win streak came to an end.

Saturday, November 10: PENGUINS 4, Pirates 3 (SO)...

The Penguins saw a 3-0 first period lead get wiped away before ultimately prevailing over the Portland Pirates in the shootout, 4-3, on Saturday night.

Riley Holzapfel notched his second goal in as many games and Trevor Smith collected consecutive tallies to help WBS to the early lead. Portland slowly rallied from behind, culminating with Alexandre Bolduc's game-tying goal less than four minutes into the third.

In the shootout, Brad Thiessen denied all four Pirates shooters. Benn Ferriero and Eric Tangradi found the back of the net to help the Penguins earn the win.

Wednesday, November 14, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Falcons... Sirius 207 / XM 92; 102.3 the Mountain

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will look to avenge a 4-2 loss in Springfield on Oct. 19 as they play host to the Falcons on Wednesday night. Springfield owns the best record in the AHL at 8-1-0-2. Goaltender Curtis McElhinney was selected CCM/AHL Player of the Week after stopping all 55 shots he faced last week for his third and fourth shutouts of the season.

Friday, November 16, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Sound Tigers... 102.3 the Mountain

The Sound Tigers (8-3-0-0) have won three straight since falling to the Penguins, 5-3, on Nov. 4 in Connecticut. Bridgeport is just two points behind Springfield for first place in the Northeast Division. The Sound Tigers are 4-0-0-0 in one-goal games. The Pens are 30-21-0-6-3 all-time against Bridgeport.

Saturday, November 17, 7:00 PM: Penguins vs. BEARS... 102.3 the Mountain

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hershey will face-off for the third time already this season with the first of two consecutive games at GIANT Center. The Bears have owned the season series thus far, defeating the Penguins 3-2 on Oct. 28 in Hershey and 3-1 on Nov. 9 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

- Saturday night's game against Portland saw the Penguins have a lead after the first period for the first time this season.

- WBS has won seven straight shootout games dating back to last season.

- WBS' 1-0 shootout win on Wednesday against Binghamton was the first such win in Penguins team history.

- The Penguins' penalty kill streak came to an end Friday night versus Hershey. They had killed off 37 straight power plays going back to Oct. 21 vs. Syracuse.
