Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - For the second night in a row, the WBS Penguins managed to capitalize in overtime to beat the Providence Bruins. The P-Bruins took an initial 2-0 lead, but was burned by the Penguins speed.

The Providence Bruins scored a pair of breakaway goals in the first to go up 2-0. Noel Acciari got on the board first, when he intercepted a point-to-point pass on the Penguins power play and was off to the races. He beat his defender and deked DeSmith out of position and finished a backhand for the shorthanded goal. The Penguins roared back with an extended period of possession and an aggressive forecheck but could not find the back of the net. Colby Cave doubled the lead 16:52 into the first period when he capitalized on a Penguin's defender broken stick and took off on a breakaway of his own. Cave's wrist shot from the left wing went high glove side and put the P-Bruins up 2-0.

The wheels came off for Providence in the middle frame, with the Penguins scoring three unanswered goals. Erixon, Sprong, and Kostopoulos all tallied in the first half of the second period to put the Penguins up 3-2 heading into the third.

The P-Bruins retaliated 0:54 into the third period, when Frankie Vatrano scored his first goal of the playoffs. Veteran initially put a puck on net from the corner, where Seth Giffith was able to put a more solid shot on net. DeSmith made a kick save on Griffith's shot, Acciari was there to jam the rebound, but it was Vatrano from behind the goal line who buried the puck. The remainder of the period was feisty on both sides, with extra pushing and shoving after virtually every whistle.

60 minutes was not enough for the second night in a row. Early in the overtime period, Jeffrey put the puck in the back of the net, but it was ruled no goal when Mouillierat knocked Jeremy Smith to the ground. But five minutes later, Sprong scored his second goal of the net to give the Penguins the overtime win.

The P-Bruins return home to the Dunk Saturday April 23rd for the must-win Game 3 of the divisional semi-finals.
