Penguins reassign goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced today by General Manager Craig Patrick.

Fleury, 19, will travel to Wilkes-Barre tomorrow. The Penguins will practice tomorrow and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. He is expected to be on the ice Wednesday. The Penguins open their first round best-of-seven playoff series in Bridgeport on Thursday night.

Fleury began the season with the Penguins, appearing in a total of 21 games, posting a 4-14-2 record with a 3.64 goals against average and a .896 save percentage.

Fleury was loaned to Canada's entry in the World Junior Championships in December. He appeared in five games for Canada, posting a 4-1-0 record and a 1.81 goals against average, helping Canada to a second place finish.

Fleury was assigned to Cape Breton (QMJHL) in January and played in 10 games with the Screaming Eagles, posting an 8-1-1 record with a 1.98 goals against average and a .933 save percentage. Fleury appeared in four playoff games with Cape Breton, posting a 1-3-0 record with a 3.10 goals against average and a .886 save percentage.

The 6'2", 175-pound native of Sorel, Quebec was drafted by the Penguins in the first round (first overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft.
