Penguins Ink Zapolski to PTO

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed goaltender Ryan Zapolski to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).
Zapolski, 26, has won six straight with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL en route to an 8-4-0 record with one shutout, a 1.49 goals against average and a .948 save percentage.
The Erie, Pennsylvania-native was recently named ECHL Goalie of the Week after going 2-0-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .968 in two games.
Zapolski began the 2012-13 season with the Gwinnett Gladiators (ECHL), winning both of his appearances. He currently leads the ECHL in goals against average (1.57), save percentage (.945) and his tied for fourth in wins (10).
Zapolski appeared in 15 ECHL games last season with Gwinnett,"Toledo and Kalamazoo, recording an overall record of 8-4-1 with two shutouts.
Prior to turning pro, Zapolski played four seasons at Mercyhurst College where he appeared in 109 games and went 48-43-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.
