Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had a streak of four straight wins halted Friday night as the Norfolk Admirals skated to a 4-1 victory at the Norfolk Scope. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond (1G-2A) and Jay Rosehill (2G-1A) each recorded three points in the win for the Admirals.
The game's first goal came at 7:46 of the first period thanks to a ferocious Admirals forecheck. Letourneau-Leblond pounced on a turnover and sailed a shot toward the net that Rosehill deflected up high over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalie Brad Thiessen.
Late in the second period, the Penguins took advantage of a lucky bounce to knot the contest at one. As Norfolk played a puck off its own back wall, the puck kicked out in front of the net for the Warren Peters to stuff by goalie Jeff Deslauriers with 2:18 remaining until the intermission.
The Admirals would own the beginning of the third period and build a 4-1 lead in large part to the efforts of Rosehill and Letourneau-Leblond. The flurry began at 3:02 as Devante Smith-Pelly gathered a loose puck at the Penguins blueline and centered a feed to Josh Brittain for the go-ahead goal.
Three minutes later, an outlet pass by the Penguins clipped off a skate went directly to Rosehill who found alone in the slot for a slapshot past Thiessen. Letourneau-Leblond soon thereafter returned the favor for Rosehill to complete a three-goal Admirals outburst over a span of 5:57.
Deslauriers finished with 31 saves for Norfolk to gather his first win of the season. Thiessen fell to 9-9-1 on the season, stopping 23-of-27 shots.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Norfolk Admirals face off again on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7:15PM. Listen in on 102.3 the Mountain and AHLLive.com.
