
Penguins announce end of season award winners

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins held their annual team awards in ceremonies tonight prior to their game with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The following trophies were awarded:
MEDIA AWARD: This award is presented to the player who has been the most courteous and cooperative during the season, as voted on by local sports media. The award was presented tonight by Leah Kappler from The Times Leader.
Winner: Toby Petersen
STAR OF THE YEAR: This award is presented to the player that has recorded the most points as one of the Weis/Mr. Z's Three Stars of the game during the 2003-04 season. The award was presented tonight by Dave Jones from Weis/Mr. Z's Markets.
Winner: Andy Chiodo
FAN FAVORITE: This award was voted for by the fans on a website poll at www.wbspenguins.com and at the arena earlier this week. The award was presented tonight by Bill Richardson from Dodge.
Winner: Toby Petersen
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: This award is presented to the Penguins' rookie who was the most outstanding during his first season of professional hockey. The award was presented tonight by Jim Reino from UGI Energy Services
Winner: Michel Ouellet
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD: This award is given to the player who is most cooperative in the community and generous with his time. The award was presented tonight by Ken Suchoski and Tom Druby from Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Highmark Blue Shield.
Winner: Toby Petersen
LEADING SCORER: This award is given to the player that leads the team in points at the end of the season. The award was presented tonight by Rich Hixon, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Winner: Michel Ouellet MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: This award is presented to the player that showed the most improvement throughout the season. The award was presented tonight by Dr.'s William J. Krywicki and David J. Kolessar from the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Human Motion Institute.
Winner: David Koci
PENGUIN AWARD: This award is given to the player that best defines Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey. The award was presented tonight by Johyne Hoyes from CTSI.
Winner: Toby Petersen
MOST VALUABLE DEFENSEMAN: This award is presented to the Penguins' most consistent defensive player. The award was presented tonight by Tony Liberto from Pepperidge Farm. Winner: Patrick Boileau
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD: This award was voted on by the Penguins' Coaching Staff and Media Relations Department of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The award was presented tonight by Rich Hixon, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Winner: Kris Beech
