The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (27-16), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, begin a three-game series with the Carolina Mudcats (15-28), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Cleveland Indians. Left-hander Victor Payano (4-2, 3.83) will be opposed by right-hander Jacob Lee (0-4, 5.87). First pitch at TicketReturn.com Field is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

YESTERDAY ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans dropped a tight 2-1 decision against the Wilmington Blue Rocks Sunday at Frawley Stadium. With two straight one-run losses, the Pelicans finished the road trip 3-3. The Pelicans have lost back-to-back games for the first time since falling in consecutive games against Frederick on April 30th and May 1st. Despite the .500 trip, the Pelicans outscored their opponents 40-17 on the road swing.

WEEKLY HONORS ... The Carolina League announced Monday that Pelicans shortstop Luis Sardinas has been named Carolina Player of the Week for his performance from May 13-19. During the seven-game stretch, Sardinas hit .419 (13-for-31) with a double, two triples and nine runs batted in. It is the second straight week the Birds have had a weekly recipient - Victor Payano was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week May 6-12.

HOME DOMINANCE ... Entering play today, the Pelicans have won nine straight home games and own the league's best home record at 16-4. Since the beginning of 2011, the Pelicans have won 100 home games and more than 40 in each of the last two seasons.

STREAKING ... Patrick Cantwell's 10-game hitting streak is the longest in the Carolina League. Lynchburg's David Rohm's 12-game streak recently came to an end. Myrtle Beach's Odubel Herrera led the league with a 22-game spurt last season.

UP NEXT ... Tonight is a "Team Tuesday" - the first 1,000 fans will receive a Rafael Furcal poster presented by Sheriar Press and 100.3 The Team. Tomorrow will be a Wiener Wednesday while Thirsty Thursday will celebrate the release of Hangover 3.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
